8th grade warm ups for week of 4-30-18

Monday (Mon.) 4-30-18 WU: What are the three ways in which electricity can be transferred? Ans: Electrical charges can be transferred through… 1: Conduction: the transfer of electrical charges through direct contact. 2: Induction: the transfer of electrical charges without direct contact/when electrons jump from one object to another 3: Friction: the transfer of electrons from one uncharged object to another by rubbing

Tuesday (Tues. ) 5-1-18 EQ: What is an electric current and how does it flow? WU: What is an electric current and how is it measured? Ans : 1: An electric current is the continuous flow of electrons through a material. 2: Electric currents are measured in Amps. Amps are the amount of charges that passes through the wire in a given unit of time.

Wednesday (Wed.) 5-2-18 WU: What is an electric circuit? Ans: An electric circuit is the complete unbroken path through which electrical charges can flow continuously from one place to another.

Thursday (Thurs.) 5-3-18 WU: What are the basic parts of an electrical circuit? Ans: 1: An electrical circuit must have an energy source such as a battery that makes the charges move around the circuit, a device that transforms the electrical energy, and a conductor such as wires to complete the path of the current. 2: They can also include a switch which opens and closes the circuit.

Friday (Fri.) 5-4-18 WU: What are the 2 types of electrical charges and how are they similar and different to magnetic poles? Ans: 1: The two types of electrical charges are positive charges and negative charges. 2: Electrical charges that are alike and magnetic poles that are alike will repel each other. 3:Electrical charges that are different will attract to each other just like the different poles of a magnetic. 4: Electrical charges can exist alone but magnetic poles always exist in pairs.
