Project 9: Investigating User Benefits and Risks Associated with IoT use REU Student: Kaley Brindisi Graduate mentor: Karla Badillo-Urquiola Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Wisniewski Week 4 (June 4– June 11 2018) Accomplishments: iOS- created a background refresh- automatically every 15 minutes, handled alerts and when they appear, created push notifications on the home screen and in notifications tab, fixed permissions issue- for allowing to send alerts, and added custom noise for alert sound Android- Fixed UI issues on dashboard, fixed issue with time data- last sync time, last recorded activity, and heart rate time, fixed time formatting so it displays the time passed (ex: 10 mins ago instead of saying 2:45), handled alerts and when they appear, fixed issue with application crashing Called 20 people for participating in the user study- got 4 people who said they would love to participate/ that fit the criteria for the study E-mailed 45 people for participating in the user study- still waiting to hear back Problems & Solutions: Pending full access to the recruitment database so that I can see all of the names in the system and edit their responses after contacting Plans for next week: Recruit more participants for the user study Finish/ finalize the applications for Android and iOS Complete IRB and submit it NSF REU Research Experience on Internet of Things 2018
