Designing an Athletics stadium

The Shropshire Council are looking at the possibility of building an athletics stadium in Shrewsbury, to improve the level of competitions that are held here. You have been put in charge of the planning, of the stadium. You must take into consideration seating for spectators and car parking spaces, as well as the athletics track and any food and toilet facilities.

You will have to plan and draw an accurate scale drawing of an athletic stadium. You must take into consideration seating for spectators and car parking spaces, as well as the athletics track and any food and toilet facilities.

The parts that you will have to include in your sports field are: Javelin Area Running Track Long Jump Pit Triple Jump Pit Discus Area

To make it fit you will have to use a scale of You will be given a help sheet like this that tells you the shape of each of the different areas and how big to draw them. (as in the javelin) To make it fit you will have to use a scale of 1 cm = 5 metres What does this mean? It’s not as easy as it sounds and you will have to think about some bits. Task 1 - Drawing

To save space, both throwing areas and both jumping areas must be placed inside the running track, but they are not allowed to overlap each other. I suggest that you draw the running track first. Then draw the other areas on separate paper and glue them in to place. Task 1 - Drawing
