Structure Draft Recommendation 3.5/1 (CAS-17) Creating an environment for innovation and its optimal resourcing Annex Draft Decision XX (Cg-18)

Background Research activities are at the base of any innovation requires adequate investment, the involvement of a critical mass of experts through shared facilities and partnership, and a culture that recognizes and values excellence. A limited number of ambitious targets are needed to drive innovation and to avoid duplication of efforts. The challenges related to urban service, water resource management, high impact weather events, will require new and innovative solutions.

Outcome WMO wide action to: Structural integration between NMHSs and the academic world; Key international partners involved in co-designing WMO research activities focusing on the seamless DPFS and on cross-cutting areas of interest, such as water resource management, high-impact weather events, integrated urban services, health impacts, coastal environment, air quality and energy; Formal engagement of key international stakeholders in setting up the WMO research agenda and in providing concrete inputs to research implementation and governance.
