In this module Why you need professional editing 4 kinds of editors 4 passes in editing

Editing Saves Lives (and your book)!

4 Kinds of Editing = 4 Passes #1. Structure: edit for logical sequence, flow #2. Language: clear language, readable

4 Kinds of Editing = 4 Passes #3. Copy editing: grammar, punctuation, spelling 4. Proofreading: final reading to pick up new typos

1st Pass –Check it Over Go thru your transcript: 1. Make sure all paragraphs are bite–sized 2. Remove “uhms” & repetition (ok, well…so…)

Read it Yourself Does it make sense and flow logically? Is anything missing? Is there anything that doesn’t add value to your reader?

Beginner’s tip Don’t be married to your words or stories. (If it doesn’t help your reader, toss it out!)

Check for Stories Does every section have at least one good story – or more? If not, add them in!

Flesch Readability Formula http://www.readabilityformulas.com/free-readability-formula- tests.php Flesch Reading Ease scored your text: fairly easy to read. Gunning Fog scored your text: fairly easy to read. Grade level: Eighth Grade. Grade level: 11-13 yrs. old (Sixth and Seventh graders)
