S.S.S.K.R.INNANI MAHAVIDYALAYA, KARANJA (LAD) SEMINAR TOPIC- GENERAL, VEGETATIVE AND REPRODUCTIVE CHARACTERS OF TELIOMYCETES SUBMITTED BY- YASMEEN AKHTAR MOHD ZIYAUDDIN

 Contents- 1.Introduction 2.Habit and habitate of Puccinia graminis 3.Symptoms of Puccinia graminis 4.Vegetative structure of Puccinia graminis 5.Life cycle of Puccinia graminis

 Introduction :- kingdome – Fungi Phylum – Basidiomycota class – Teliomycetes Order – Uredinales Family – Pucciniaceae Genus – Puccinia Species – graminis

 Habit and habitate of Puccinia graminis:- 1.Obligate, parasite, polymorphic, macro cyclic and heteroecious rust. 2.It effects wide range of hosts including wheat, barley, oats and rye. 3.Puccinia g involve in its life cycle two distinct alternate hosts plants wheat and barberry.

 Symptoms of Puccinia graminis:- On Wheat: 1.The symptoms of disease appear as large elongated and brown pustules(uredosori) on the stem, sheath and leaf. 2.Leter on these brown pustules change into black coloured large pustules.

On Barberry: 1.Infection first start on the dorsal surface of the leaf in the form of minute, dark coloured and flask shaped pycnia which appear as yellow spots. 2.Beneath pycnia, on the ventral surface, appear cup like projections of aecia or aecidia.

 Vegetative structure of puccinia graminis:- 1.The mycellium is diakaryotic on primary host and monokaryotic on secondary host. 2.The monokaryotic mycellium is called hapiomycellium or primary hyphae and diakaryotic mycellium is call as secondary hyphae. 3.The cytoplasmic membrane surrounded te granular cytoplasm and reserve food material remains in the form of glycogen bodies and oil globulese.

 Life cycle of Puccinia graminis:- 1.Puccinia is long cycle rust. 2.It have 5 stages in life cycle. A.Stage 0 – Spermogonia bearing Spermatia & receptive hyphae B.Stage I – Aecia bearing Aesiospores C.Stage II – Uredia bearing Uredospores D.Stage III – Telia bearing Teleutospores E.Stage IV – Promycelia bearing Basidiospores

Out of these five stages, Uredo stage, Teleto stage are produce on primary host and remaining two stages (spermogonial and aecial stage) are produced on the secondary host
