3 MISSION STATEMENT To augment regular ROTC courses with quality English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) training, preparing cadets whose first language is Spanish to meet the Army English language standards in order to attend Leadership Training Camp, to contract, to attend National Advanced Leadership Camp, and to be commissioned. To prepare cadets to compete and perform satisfactorily in an environment where English is the medium of instruction. To produce fully bilingual second lieutenants for service in the United States Army.

7 ELL Programs On Campus English Program Puerto Rico –Non-Intensive Program (Less than 34 hrs/semester) –Consists of 8 courses, two for each semester of a four year program Summer English Program Puerto Rico –Intensive Program (30 hrs/week) –Conducted for Seven Weeks From Late May ~ July Winter English Program –Intensive Program (24 hrs/week) –Conducted for Three Weeks

12 SOPs All cadets must be enrolled in the ELLP. Minimum two hours of ELL training a week. Closely-Monitored Cadets must participate in Supplementary Language Training. Monthly reports to LTD Chief: attendance, ECLT scores. Briefings to the PMS.
13 SOPs Cont. All Closely-Monitored Cadets must participate in Summer English Program. Cadets that do not meet the language requirements will be disenrolled. Use of Level-4 Language Lab to augment ELL Training.
