 Why another amendment?  -Poll taxes  -Literacy Tests  -White Primary System  -Intimidation  -> Leads to disenfranchise

Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

 Homer Plessy challenged the law -> arrested  His case reached the supreme court  Case: Plessy versus Ferguson (name of the judge)  “separate but equal” as the base of the apartheid.

 Context:  Atlanta was a growing city  Competing for jobs  Making it Worse  Hoke Smith blamed African American‘s for Atlanta‘s economic problems  Newspaper printed false stories about blach men attacking and assaulting white women.
