Unit 3 – World at war Everybody must tag in!!!!!!! Learning Target – I will continue to research by using high quality, critical thinking Inquiry Questions. Success Criteria - I will know I have hit the LT when I can: Draft high-quality Inquiry Questions that include the 4 C’s (cause, change, continuation or consequence), ASPIRE categories, or other relevant academic language Find answers to my inquiry questions through independent research Use MLA citation format for my sources Relevance – Individual Researching and Questioning

MLA Citations Format – Bibliography and In-Text Citations Go to CANVAS – student resources...there are videos and information about how to cite sources using MLA format. There is a poster on the door to Mr. Redlings room...look at it. Student Handbook – go to p. 18 and review the information about proper citation in a bibliography.  Look at p. 22 for proper In-Text/Parenthetical citation. Go the the Purdue Owl (online source) and review information about MLA citation provided there:  https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_g uide/mla_formatting_and_style_guide.html Citation Machine and EasyBib – these online systems do not automatically format information from your sources properly.  Be very careful if using these.

High Level Inquiry Questions These questions relate to the Causes, Changes,  Consequences, or Continuation connected to the topic you are studying. These questions help to explain how the topic you are studying is important for understanding World War 1 or World War 2. These questions might connect to ASPIRE topics - like Area, Social, Political, Intellectual, Religious or Economic issues that relate to your topic and the war? These questions will be specific and not vaguely connected to your topic.

Only look at the following slides if you are having difficulty coming up with high level questions on your own!! Your grade for creating Inquiry Questions will be affected if you use the examples I provide for you in the next few slides!!! Look at the scoring guide for Standard B10.

The Big Question – the question below is the general question that you are answering with your research and your project. In what ways is ______________________ (fill in the blank with your topic) significant or important for understanding World War 1 or World War 2? Your job is to learn about the details of your topic, but you also need to explain how the details of your topic are important to understanding World War 1 or World War 2. You do this by connecting to our THINKING terms:  ASPIRE and the 4 C’s (change, cause, continuation or consequence). Read the next few slides to help you develop high level thinking inquiry questions.

Write your own questions!! Review the example sentences and sentence models I provided for you. Change them to fit the topic that you are researching. When I grade your inquiry questions, if you use my templates, you will not be able to score at the highest level, because you need to be able to independently create inquiry questions to show the highest skill. As you research, try to create more questions which connect to the details you find in your research!!! Call me over to help you if you have questions or need help.
