Hebrews 13:15 Through Him then, let us continually Offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, The fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

A Feast of Dedication John 10:22 Joh 10:22 ¶ At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem; 23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico of Solomon.

Worship Days of God Passover Feast of Unleavened Bread Feast of First Fruits Feast of Pentecost Feast of Trumpets Day of Atonement Feast of Tabernacles Leviticus 23 – Worhsip in the OT was not weekly, but in seven holy days in the year. The Sabbath, though holy, was not a day of convocation / group worship

Where is the Feast of Dedication? Feast Days of God Passover Feast of Unleavened Bread Feast of First Fruits Feast of Pentecost Feast of Trumpets Day of Atonement Feast of Tabernacles Where is the Feast of Dedication? There are two feasts in the bible that are missing from the origina list – Purim and Dedication.

The Feast of Dedication What Daniel saw "Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation.” Daniel 11:31

The Feast of Dedication The Desolation of the Temple by the Greek King (King Antiochus) entered proudly into the sanctuary, and took away the golden altar, and the candlestick of light, and all the vessels thereof, and the table of the shewbread, and the pouring vessels, and the vials. and the censers of gold, and the veil, and the crown, and the golden ornaments that were before the temple, all which he pulled off. 1 Mac. 1:21-22 CAREFUL – 1 Maccabees is an excellent history, but it does not claim to be inspired, nor was it ever considered inspired. It weas likely written much closer to the event than Josephus, and so should be seen as a better record of the events. This passage is taken from the King James Version Apocrypha

The Feast of Dedication The Desolation of the Temple by the Greek King (Jerusalem’s) sanctuary was laid waste like a wilderness, her feasts were turned into mourning, her sabbaths into reproach her honour into contempt. As had been her glory, so was her dishonour increased, and her excellency was turned into mourning. 1 Mac. 1:39-40 CAREFUL – 1 Maccabees is an excellent history, but it does not claim to be inspired, nor was it ever considered inspired. It weas likely written much closer to the event than Josephus, and so should be seen as a better record of the events. This passage is taken from the King James Version Apocrypha

The Feast of Dedication The Dedication of the Temple by the Priests the whole congregation of Israel ordained, that the days of the dedication of the altar should be kept in their season from year to year by the space of eight days, from the five and twentieth day of the month Casleu, with mirth and gladness. 1 Mac. 4:59 42So he chose priests of blameless conversation, such as had pleasure in the law: 43Who cleansed the sanctuary, and bare out the defiled stones into an unclean place. 44And when as they consulted what to do with the altar of burnt offerings, which was profaned; 45They thought it best to pull it down, lest it should be a reproach to them, because the heathen had defiled it: wherefore they pulled it down, 46And laid up the stones in the mountain of the temple in a convenient place, until there should come a prophet to shew what should be done with them. 47Then they took whole stones according to the law, and built a new altar according to the former; 48And made up the sanctuary, and the things that were within the temple, and hallowed the courts. 49They made also new holy vessels, and into the temple they brought the candlestick, and the altar of burnt offerings, and of incense, and the table. 50And upon the altar they burned incense, and the lamps that were upon the candlestick they lighted, that they might give light in the temple. 51Furthermore they set the loaves upon the table, and spread out the veils, and finished all the works which they had begun to make. 52Now on the five and twentieth day of the ninth month, which is called the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and eighth year, they rose up betimes in the morning, 53And offered sacrifice according to the law upon the new altar of burnt offerings, which they had made. 54Look, at what time and what day the heathen had profaned it, even in that was it dedicated with songs, and citherns, and harps, and cymbals. 55Then all the people fell upon their faces, worshipping and praising the God of heaven, who had given them good success. 56And so they kept the dedication of the altar eight days and offered burnt offerings with gladness, and sacrificed the sacrifice of deliverance and praise.

The Feast of Dedication The importance of the lampstand in the Temple Exodus 25:31 Then you shall make a lampstand of pure gold.….. Six branches shall go out from its sides; three branches of the lampstand from its one side and three branches of the lampstand from its other side. Ex 8:23 "I will put a division between My people and your people. Tomorrow this sign will occur."‘ 1Co 5:7 ¶ Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed.

The Feast of Dedication The importance of the lampstand in the Temple Exodus 26:35 You shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand opposite the table on the side of the tabernacle toward the south; and you shall put the table on the north side. Heb 9:2 For there was a tabernacle prepared, the outer one, in which were the lampstand and the table and the sacred bread; this is called the holy place.

Considering this Feast The Feast of Dedication was a pledge by Israel It remembered when the light was out It was a promise not to let it happen again It speaks to the concept of re-dedication 1 Cor. 3:16 Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are. Ge 6:16 "You shall make a window for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top; and set the door of the ark in the side of it; 2Pe 1:19 ¶ So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place

Keeping the Light in the Temple The Temple is the church – 1 Cor. 3:16-17 Like the ark of Noah: It has one door – John 10:7 w/ Gal. 3:27 It has one source of light – 2 Peter 1:19 The church can only do what Scripture reveals 1 Cor.

Keeping the Light in the Temple You are the temple of God – 1 Cor. 6:19 Like the altar of David: God has directed your service – Rom. 12:1 You were bought at a price – 1 Cor. 6:20 You can only do what Scripture reveals 1Co 6:19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body 1Ch 21:18 ¶ Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up and build an altar to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite……1Ch 21:23 Ornan said to David, "Take it for yourself; and let my lord the king do what is good in his sight. See, I will give the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for wood and the wheat for the grain offering; I will give it all." 24 But King David said to Ornan, "No, but I will surely buy it for the full price; for I will not take what is yours for the LORD, or offer a burnt offering which costs me nothing."

Considering Rededication They purged out the old materials - They pulled down the Greek idols They replaced the instruments of worship - The light was restored They pledged to remember the temple

Considering Rededication A rededication of YOUR temple to God - Remove the idols – Col. 3:5 - Renew your heart – Rom. 12:2 - Remember your pledge – 2 Cor. 9:13 Col 3:5 ¶ Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. 2Co 9:13 Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your contribution to them and to all,

A Continual Dedication to God Renewing our minds means re-dedicating ourselves We need to constantly inspect and cleanse Ex 11:7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

A Continual Dedication to God Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God…….. Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 6:16-17:1 Ex 11:7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog will not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.'

Stones Only Christ Can Fix They thought it best to pull it down, lest it should be a reproach to them, because the heathen had defiled it: wherefore they pulled it down, and laid up the stones in the mountain of the temple in a convenient place, until there should come a prophet to shew what should be done with them. 1 Mac. 4:45-46

Stones Only Christ Can Fix how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? Hebrews 9:14
