Eligible spouses and dependents may be buried, even if they predecease the Veteran. The Veterans family should make funeral or cremation arrangements with a funeral provider or cremation office. Any item or service obtained from a funeral home or cremation office will be at the family's expense. Preparing in Advance Gravesites in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) national cemeteries cannot be reserved in advance. You should advise your family of your wishes and where your discharge papers are kept. These papers are very important in establishing your eligibility.  At the time of need your family would contact a funeral home who will assist them with making burial arrangements at the national cemetery.  You may wish to make pre-need arrangements with a funeral home. Funeral Director can take care of everything for the family. They will do the Scheduling for the cemetery, and request for Military Honors, give you a Flag, and all permits needed for interment.

Things you will need to give to Funeral Home Director Discharge/CA Burial Permit What you must have on the day of service: CALIFORIA BURIAL PERMIT You will get it from the funeral home or from the county (IF you are making and doing the arrangement) California County Health Department 3851 Rosecrans Street, San Diego, CA 92186 (619) 692-5733 You will bring the following: Urn Flag Burial permit You will need the veterans discharge papers or any military papers to show when they came into the military, and when they got out. Day of Service staging area Funeral Director Family and Friends You should arrive at the cemetery no more then 20 min period to your schedule service time. Everyone will be lead by the cemetery staff, to were the service will take place, this is a car precession. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CARS IN THE STAGGING AREA.

Committal Shelters Memorial Service without honors Memorial Service All services and military honors, will be held at the committal shelters. Conducting brief interment services at these shelters – rather than at the gravesite – enhances safety, facilitates the participation of family members who are sometimes elderly or frail; and allows the efficient scheduling of multiple interment services over the course of the day. However, we will conduct grave-side services for service members killed in action, and we also arrange to set the headstone or marker the same day. This is a photo of the shelter at Great Lakes National Cemetery, in Michigan. Memorial Service with Honors

Military Honors are provided by the Department of Defense Your branch of service Military Honor Team will be standing by waiting on us to arrive

Presidential Memorial Certificate For active duty and honorably discharged Veterans Inscribed with the deceased’s name Bears the Present President’s signature This will come after the interment by mail in about 60-90. You will be able to order as many as you would like.   These engraved certificates are inscribed with the Veteran’s or service member’s name and bear the incumbent President’s signature. This program was begun by President Kennedy and each subsequent president has carried on the tradition. Eligibility for this benefit is slightly different from most of the others we provide, insofar as the must have been honorably discharged in order for his family to receive the certificate. In most other cases, the threshold is other than dishonorably discharged. And that’s a perfect lead into my next slide, about eligibility.

Memorial Day and Wreaths Across America Memorial Day, is our biggest event at the National cemetery. Dec, the 2nd Sat at 9:00am will be a wreath placed on every gravesite at all 131 National Cemetery.
