Presentation transcript:

Reception Class Spring 2019 Personal Social and Emotional Development We are trying to improve our attention and concentration skills, especially when listening to others. To do this we are having question and answer sessions and we will be encouraging the children to talk about their toys and the stories we have been reading. We will be learning about other cultures in our Toys topic and when we celebrate Chinese New Year. We will be making sure we can all dress ourselves independently. Mathematics We will be learning to recognise coins and match them to prices to buy toys in a shop. We are learning to recognise numbers, count and label groups of objects with the correct numeral, and solve addition and subtraction problems with objects. We will be using mathematical language such as more, fewer, less, heavier, lighter, longer, shorter when measuring, weighing and comparing toys.   Communication, Language and Literacy We are reading stories and rhymes about toys and teddy bears. We continue with phase 3 Letters and Sounds, making sure we form each letter correctly. We will use our sounds to attempt writing words and sentences on our own to make lists, labels and stories. We will be looking at non-fiction books about toys. Understanding the World We will be sorting toys, looking at how they work and what they are made of. We are making puppets and models of toys with junk. We will be looking at old toys and those from other cultures. We will be celebrating Chinese New Year. We will be exploring different ways of joining materials together.   ICT We are improving our mouse control by completing games on My World. We will also explore programming using the Beebots.   Physical Development We are learning to balance and hold shapes with our bodies. The Learn To Move exercises will make our bodies stronger and help us with our handwriting skills. We will be making up some toy dances. We are practising our scissor skills and fine motor control skills when we make toy models.   Expressive Arts & Design We will be acting out and retelling stories and learning songs about toys. We have a Puppet Factory for making puppets. In music we are copying rhythms and using instruments to represent toys and characters in our stories. We are using our imagination to act out scenarios in the home corner and with dressing up. Jigsaw The topic this half term is Dreams and Goals. Through assemblies and circle time we will be talking about making goals for this term and working hard to achieve them. We are setting a goal for ourselves to achieve this half term. Religious Education We are looking at stories that Jesus told.
