Global Best Practices on Introduction - SAICM & Global Best Practices on Emerging Chemical Policy Issues of Concern under the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM)

A policy framework promoting chemical safety around the world Overall Objective:Achieve the sound management of chemicals throughout their lifecycle by 2020 and sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020 A policy framework promoting chemical safety around the world Established in 2006 Multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder Coordinates, convenes & catalyzes action Voluntary, complements existing efforts Builds capacity at country and regional level Addresses emerging issues Governed by the International Conference on Chemicals Management, guided by a Bureau SAICM connects, convenes and catalyzes networks of regional, multi-sectoral and multi-stakeholder participation, platforms that support pro-active work on emerging issues as well as opportunities to enhance engagement and responsibility of stakeholders Primarily through the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM) and its subsidiary bodies Also through regional and sectoral related meetings. Levels the playing field globally – building the capacity of developing countries. Addresses emerging issues   -- This is all to 2020.  -- The SAICM secretariat also has a mandate to work with stakeholders to support them in shaping the agenda of SAICM and the sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020. UNEP hosts the secretariat to SAICM. UNEP Chemicals & Health Branch plays a big role in implementing SAICM.

Inception Workshop 15-16 January 2019 Objectives a. To update project execution partners on the project scope including concept, objectives, components and outputs and endorse any changes to project annexes (legal agreements, ToRs, budget, procurement plan, workplan, supervision plan) b. To ensure common understanding of the project delivery structure, the linkages, and the roles and responsibilities of each partner (Implementing Agency, Executing Agency, Component Leads, and Delivery Partners and contractors), including reporting requirements c. To finalize detailed project work plans, budgets and quarterly forecasts for the project YEAR 1 based on the drafts developed in advance of the meeting d. To agree on a communication plan and knowledge management approach for project partners and executing agency
