Looking forward To explore further opportunities in the rapidly maturing business of environmental energy. The Switch is the Yaskawa Environmental Energy Division. Our technology, The Switch DC-Hub with the unique electronic bus link (EBL) and permanent magnet machines, are navigating the way to produce, transfer and consume energy in the most efficient way.

Future shipping How to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)? Technical measures Increasing efficiency Operational measures Slower ship speeds Ship-port coordination Shore power Alternative fuels LNG Sustainable biofuels Ammonia Hydrogen Technical advancement and operational improvements are not contributing enough to decarbonize the shipping industry. GHG emissions Time Technical measures, hull design, PM technology, batteries, DC-hub solutions.. VOC systems, using waste on board shuttle tanker as fuel etc. Waste heat recovery. These are substantial part of the needed emission reductions. Operational measures, reduce transit speed of vessels. Ports Shanghai/Hongkong etc large ships waiting to come to port. Reduction of ship waiting time before entering a port.

DC-hubs The Switch DC-Hub is a multi-source and multi-load DC system, based on standardized Power Drive units. This solution offers a wide and flexible choice of power generation, energy storage, charging, propulsion power and clean power for any ship system.

traditional Standalone drive solution System consists of 2 AC-SWBDs + 7 frequency converters + potential transformers. Total of 9 cabinets.

DC-hub solution 9 different cabinets, down-sized to two DC-hubs.

Comparison – Traditional AC system vs DC-hubs

EBL – Electronic Bus link

Short introduction to ebl Connects DC-Hubs together Ultra rapid disconnecting in case of short circuit Disconnects in approximately 10 microseconds Improves redundancy while enabling fuel saving

Advantages of DC-HUBS with EBL Save space on board Be redundant Meet new emission regulations Operate silently Stay flexible EBL gives: Increased redundancy with the help of several DC-Hubs in a network Garanteed selectivity between hubs for increased personnel safety Operation with closed buslink gives possibility to reduce fuel consumption Reduce the amount of power generating sources DC-Hub: Several types of energy sources can easily be connected Variable speed operation of gensets for reduced fuel consumption Utilization of regenerated energy Reduced volume and weight compared with AC systems Avoid an AC switchboard No/reduced need of transformers in the system Case study Type Relative weight Relative volume AC with AFE*) 100% DC-Hubs 83% 85% *) No transformers included
