National Recognition: A Nation at Hope Set a clear vision that broadens the definition of student success to prioritize the whole child. Transform learning settings so they are safe and supportive for all young people. Change instruction to teach students social, emotional, and cognitive skills; embed these skills in academics and school- wide practices. Build adult expertise in child development. Align resources and leverage partners in the community to address the whole child. Forge closer connections between research and practice by shifting the paradigm for how research gets done. Shaunda – 10 minutes Aspen Institute’s National Commission on Social, Emotional, & Academic Development released a report entitled “From a Nation at Risk to a Nations at Hope” outlining these six recommendations. The commission was started to “engage and energize communities in re-envisioning learning to encompass its social, emotional, and cognitive dimensions so that all children can succeed in school, careers, and life. After 2 years of research - this report “from the nation, to the nation” outlines these recommendations for practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. Three detailed reports for each of those groups (practice, policy, and research) can be found on the website www.nationathope.org PSELI is highlighted as an exemplar for the 6th recommendation – we are a part of a national initiative that is at the forefront and leading the way in not only the social and emotional learning realm, but the evolution of the field of education. Really cool. & Playworks is featured in these series of reports for recess What are your initial thoughts?
