Study of Hebrews Lesson 4

Hebrews 2:6-8a 6 But one has testified somewhere, saying, . 8 YOU HAVE PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET." Start of a quote out of Psalm 8:4-6

Hebrews 2:8b 8 … For in subjecting all things to him, He left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to him. So, who’s the him that all things were subjected to? Careful now! It must be man, NOT Jesus Why? Because all things are not yet under his subjection – we are still subject to death, disease, etc. We are still subject to creation

*DEET DE-DEET DE-DEET DEET* We now interrupt this study of Hebrews 2 for a very brief study on the subject of judgment (specifically Christians judging)

Judgment 1 Corinthians 6:1-3 6:1 Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? 2 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent to constitute the smallest law courts? 3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?

Judgment 1 Corinthians 6:1-3 What does Paul mean when he says we are going to judge the world? This is a future tense form of the Greek word “to judge” – that is “we will judge” So, this can’t be something happening right now, but it will happen at a future time

Judgment 2 Timothy 2:11-12 11 It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him; 12 If we endure, we will also reign with Him;

Judgment 2 Timothy 2:11-12 This passage indicates that we are not only co-heirs with Christ, and brothers and sisters to Christ, but we will also be co-rulers with Christ So, is it to far a stretch to think that we will also stand in judgment with Him?

What’s the author trying to say? Put it all together Jesus is superior to the angels because for the reasons we saw in the last chapter But right now, we (man) are still in subjection to creation due to sin Why does this matter?

Hebrews 2:8b God did, at one point, give everything on Earth to man as his dominion (when?) But because of sin, things aren’t that way anymore Romans 8:18-22 We messed everything up by sinning! And that sin “broke” everything Well, now what?

Hebrews 2:9 9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. Jesus gave up equality with God to take on death for all man He essentially “balanced the books” for us
