Our small village called Buj Welcome to Buj Our small village called Buj

History of Buj Part 1. the villages name’s comes from a Turkish name. It was founded in the 14th century. In 1580 reformers built first church in Buj until the 16th century the Báthori noble family lived here. later in the 17th century the Szakoly family got Buj. It was a big family. in the 18th century there were swamps around Buj. In 1882 the Lónyai canal was created.

History of Buj Part 2. The Greeks built a church in 1825 and in 1851 the church had got a tower. In 1906 people started to travel by small railway Buj had got a big chance to be a centre of the region But it didn’t happen. in 1960 people wanted to build a high school. Buj wasn’t in war, but the infection killed a lot of people so the landlords brought people in the village that they were save the village.

Buj today Part 1. Buj is a village in the northern great plain region of Szabolcs Szatmár Bereg county . It’s area 32.76 Km2 . 2360 people live in our village. Our village hasn’t got natural river, but has got one canal. It’s called Lónyai canal.

Buj today Part 2. In the North there is a village called, Tiszabercel. In the Northeast the city called, Ibrány. This city is the center of the region. In the Southeast the village called Kótaj. In the South a village called, Nyírtelek.

House of the local government. House of the local government: the mayor and council members discuss the affairs of the village there.

The school. The kindergarten. School: our school is a two-storey building. There are about 20 classrooms. The school has got a big hall, where events can be organized. 210 pupils learn there. Kindergarten: the kindergarten's name from the 1.1 is Arany Alma. About 60 children come there.

Village Hall Community House: in the community house there are programmes : different activities, computer games. We can watch good films and create different things there.

Soccer field and village Day Football pitch and Village day: this is our football pitch. The local football team plays there. Children and adults like to play here. In summer many people spend their free time on the pitch. And village day is organized in this place when people cook lecsó.

A place of amusement for youngsters and teenagers. Families and older people can also have fun here.

Home of elderly people Day nursery.

Monument for a Hungarian politician. The Statue of the heroes. This is the monument of the I. and II. World War’s local deads and departed Jews. This statue is in the center of village. The statue was made by Sandor Nagy in 1989.

Station of our railway We have three train stations, but we don’t use these, because the train stopped 3 years ago.Before it we travelled to Nyiregyhaza- Sosto, Kotaj, across Buj, Paszab, Tiszabercel, Gavavencsellő and Balsa. The train had another line: across Buj, Ibrany, Nagyhalasz and the end is Dombrad.

The churches of three religions can be found. around the village center.

Lónyai Canal flows next to the village. The Lonyai canal is 91 km long. This canal is can be found near Buj.

Cemetery Buj’s cemetery is the next to the Lónyai canal. There are about 200 tombstones there. On 1 of November our cemetery is beautiful in the night, because a lot of people bring candles for their dead family members, or friends’ tomb. Our cemetery has a big bell. If somebody dies, the bell rings. The cemetery has a small car park.
