Thank you to all the parents who helped with Grandparent’s Day Thank you to all the parents who helped with Grandparent’s Day. It was a huge success, for those of you who couldn’t be there, the children did a fantastic job preparing for the day!

The Living Rosary… Third Grade Practiced the Rosary during the month of October. We were able to watch the 4th grade as they did a splendid job with the Living Rosary. This is an event to look forward to next year.

Upcoming Events Friends for Change Deck the Halls Toy Drive Christmas Party
Friends for Change meets every other Tuesday in 3C. Please send a note to your child’s teacher every time your child is staying after school. The meeting is 2:30- 3:30. Please pick up your child by the school doors on the Chapel side of the parking lot at 3:30. The next meeting is Tuesday, December 3rd.
Deck the Halls Deck the Halls will be on Friday, December 6th. Class liaisons will be sending in a snack. We will be collecting $3 for a craft.
Socks for Seniors The 3rd grade will be collecting “Socks for Seniors” for their Corporal Works of Mercy Project. If you are able, please send a pair of fluffy comfortable socks to 3B by December 15th.
Christmas Party The Christmas Party will be the week before Christmas Vacation! All parents are invited. Please check the website for date, time, and the amount which will be collected for treats.

Reminders
Math Please practice multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction facts every night. It is part of your child’s homework. The Race has changed a bit... During school hours, we are practicing the mechanics of multiplication. We have been doing at least 5 word problems a day which included at least 1 operation but occasionally have 2 or 3 steps. For instance: the students will have at least 1 multiplication, 1 division, 1 subtraction, and 1 addition problem a day. In addition the students have a multiple step problem which includes 2-3 operations. Also, the students are given word problems with elapsed time and measurement terminology.
Math Please practice mathematics terminology at home. For instance: multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition are all operations in math. We no longer say, minus, add, times Also, phrases used in mathematics and are important to know when problem solving are; how much more is needed, altogether, find the sum, find the difference. We are also using the Smartboard to review facts. Please visit Interactive Weebley as an alternative to flashcards. Multiplication can be found in the addition section. Homework will be collected and graded once a week. Please remember to sign the homework and the planner. Check the web page for updates on tests and quizzes.
Handwriting Please make sure your child is sitting in the correct position when writing. Also, please make sure they are developing letters correctly. Starting in December all spelling work will be written in cursive. I will be grading the spelling test based on letter formation. All work with be written in cursive in January.
Spelling Please check the web page. Grammar may be included in the spelling homework. For example: I may ask the students to underline the action verbs in their spelling sentences. Please check the spelling homework to make sure the sentences have at least six words and make sense. Homework will be graded once a week to ensure the students are doing it correctly at home. Please sign the homework and the planner. Please have the students vary the way they start a sentence. Please do not start every sentence with “I”.
Science and Social Studies Please check the web page for additional information. Make sure the planner and the web page information coincide. Check the web page for additional projects and homework. The students may be getting science and social studies homework. Reading and Language Arts are integrated into these subjects.
Reading The focal point in reading sessions are vocabulary, skill, and comprehension. The students will be graded on their comprehension of a skill. Main Idea and Supporting detail are skills we practice during reading groups, grammar and writing. However, these skills are necessary in science and social studies. We have been practicing identifying important information in these informative texts. Occasionally these skills will be practiced at home for these subjects.
