Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Nurse Corps Loan Program (LRP) Federal LRP administered by the Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Assists in the recruitment and retention of professional nurses in healthcare facilities with a critical shortage of nurses or nursing faculty Benefits Pay off up to 85% of your student loans with continued service Inclusion in a community of providers with a shared mission

Nurse Corps LRP Eligibility Criteria US Citizen or National; Licensed to practice in the state of proposed service; Full-time (at least 32 hours/week) at an eligible site (must be in a HPSA) or full-time nurse faculty member at an accredited eligible school of nursing; Outstanding government or commercial loans for nursing school tuition, fees, and reasonable living expenses ; Have no other health professional service obligation; and Have not defaulted on any prior service or Federal payment obligations

Nurse Corps Eligible Sites FQHCs & FQHC Look-Alikes Public Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility Local Health Department Ambulatory Surgical Center (outpatient, and cannot be hospital owned) Home Health Agency Hospice Program Nursing Home Disproportionate Hospital Critical Access Hospitals

Nurse Corps Participation Requirements Provide a minimum of two years of service at an approved CSF site; Provide full-time service, 32 hours a week for at least 45 weeks; Maintain licensure and certifications; and Agree to provide reasonable, usual, and customary health services

Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Amounts Pays participants a total of 60% of their total qualifying debt Contracts are renewable for an additional year Pays 25% of their total qualifying debt (3rd year) Payments are NOT tax exempt (Federal or state)

NHSC LRP Participation Requirements Provide a minimum of 2 years of service at an approved service site Provide full-time service, 32 hours a week for at least 45 weeks, or half-time service, 20 hours a week for at least 45 weeks Maintain licensure and certifications Agree to provide reasonable, usual, and customary health services

NHSC Loan Repayment Amounts Tiered Loan Repayment Full-time service HPSA Score of > 14, $50,000 for 2-year contract (Initial Award) HPSA Score of < 13, $30,000 for 2-year contract (Initial Award) Half-time Service HPSA Score of > 14, $25,000 for 2-year contract (Initial Award) HPSA Score of < 13, $15,000 for 2-year contract (Initial Award) Contracts are renewable annually after initial obligation until debt is paid off Payments are tax-exempt

DC HPLRP Eligibility Criteria Be a citizen or permanent U.S. resident Be licensed and eligible to practice in the District Propose to practice or currently practice at a certified HPLRP Service Obligation Site (SOS); and Propose to provide services in a HPSA or MUA Have no other health professional service obligation

DC HPLRP Loan Repayment Amounts Physicians and dentists eligible to have 100% of total debt paid, not to exceed $148,471*, repaid over 4 years Two year award contracts: 44% of total unpaid debt, not to exceed $65,327 Other health professionals eligible to have 100% of their total paid, not to exceed $81,657* repaid over 4 years Two year award contracts: 44% of total unpaid debt, not to exceed $35,929 Contracts are renewable annually after obligation for an additional two years (28% of total debt) Payments are tax-exempt * Maximum contract amounts for new contracts adjusted (i.e. increased) annually according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI)

DC HPLRP Application Process Two application periods each year: early fall & early spring Check bulletins on the HPLRP website Applications screened based on criteria using a 100-point scale Applicant must score 80 points to qualify for HPLRP Applicants notified of award selection by January 1, and June 1
