Branding, LinkedIn & Managing Your Online Presence Presentation by Adam Schaffer, Career Development Services

Who you are VS How You Are Perceived Part of the reason I asked “Whats your purpose” instead of “whats your plan” is that we already know what your short term plan is…. To get a job. But being able to define who you are in terms of your long-term professional goals will not only help you reach those goals, but will help you be successful in the job market. Many of you have heard the term Branding before, and one of the things I like to talk about here is this idea of balancing who you are with how you want to be perceived. Social media, especially LinkedIn is a great tool to reinforce how you want others to perceive you and what type of message you are conveying through your branding. The power behind branding

“ Define brand… “ “Personal Brand is what people say about you when you leave the room.” Jeff Bezos, Founder Amazon.com “A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is -- it is what consumers tell each other it is.” – Scott Cook “If people believe they share values with a company, they will stay loyal to the brand.” – Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks

Personal Branding “People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.” – Simon Sinek

Why Is Branding Important? Organizations don’t just hire based on skills, they also hire based on who you are as a person: your why, your brand, your fit.

Did You Know… 78% of employers use social media during the recruitment process Top three platforms used by employers: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook All three platforms are used to vet candidates before and after an interview
