What should you do? The online world is a very big place. ©VotesForSchools2018 What should you do? The online world is a very big place. It can be really fun when people use it sensibly and treat others with respect… In pairs (4-8 mins) As a class, read through the next four slides. In pairs, talk about what this person should do and pick the option they should choose to stay safe. Your teacher will ask you to explain your answer. but it can be very upsetting and hurtful when people don’t treat each other this way. Challenge: Pick out the option you think is the most dangerous.

Write a mean comment in someone else’s book ©VotesForSchools2018 Number one: Mariana opens her Maths book and finds someone has written a nasty comment in her book. This is not the first time this has happened. What should Mariana do? Images: 1-iStock 2- https://pixabay.com/en/photos/click%20icon/ 1 Rub it out and ignore it 2 Write a mean comment in someone else’s book 3 Show an adult she trusts

Take the tablet to his mum and show her ©VotesForSchools2018 Number two: Kwaku is playing Roblox on his mum’s tablet. Someone sends him a message saying, “You’re rubbish at this game. Get off. No one wants you in the team.” What should Kwaku do? Images: 1-iStock 2- https://pixabay.com/en/photos/click%20icon/ 1 Take the tablet to his mum and show her 2 Reply to the message 3 Play a different game

©VotesForSchools2018 Number three: Oscar was playing tag in the playground but when he tagged people they didn’t stop and carried on playing. They ignored him then told him to go away. What should Oscar do? Images: 1-iStock 2- https://pixabay.com/en/photos/click%20icon/ 1 Go and tell the teacher on duty 2 Shout at the children ignoring him 3 Find someone else to play with

Number four: “No one likes you. Don’t come to school tomorrow.” ©VotesForSchools2018 Number four: “No one likes you. Don’t come to school tomorrow.” Naomi sees a nasty message pop up on her sister Tia’s phone. It says, “No one likes you. I wouldn’t bother coming to school if I were you.” There are lots of other messages like this on Tia’s phone from the same person. What should Naomi do? Images: 1-iStock 2- https://pixabay.com/en/photos/click%20icon/ 1 Tell her sister to talk to someone 2 Take the phone and show it to their parents 3 Give her sister a big hug

What about online bullying? ©VotesForSchools2018 What should you do? Class Talk (2 mins) Were any of these children being bullied? How do you know? What about online bullying? Bullying: Bullying is when someone does or says something that makes someone feel unhappy lots of times.

All of these children should tell an adult about what’s happening. ©VotesForSchools2018 What should you do? Kwaku and Oscar are both being treated unkindly. Being left out or spoken to in a mean way can be very upsetting. All of these children should tell an adult about what’s happening. Who would you tell? Mariana and Tia are both being bullied. We know this because they are both being made unhappy by someone and it has happened more than once. Tia is being bullied online, which is different from face-to-face bullying, but just as hurtful. Online bullying can happen on phones, tablets or computers. It can be anything you think is unkind, like a mean message. Always talk to a trusted adult if you feel hurt or worried by something you see online.

If you see something that upsets you…. 3 4 If someone is being unkind online…. ……………………………….. 5

On your own (3-5 mins) Without showing anyone, write something kind about a classmate and post it in a box/teapot/bucket. Abeni is very smiley and kind to people. Teachers idea: Read out a few at the end of the lesson and each day. Johan is lots of fun out on the playground.
