Course Selection Fort Bend ISD is pleased to be able to offer a wide variety of programs and courses for our students. Master schedules change from year to year and are developed in the spring prior to the upcoming year based on courses requested by students. Selections made during course registration indicate how many teachers and sections will be needed for a course. This process allows administrators to plan and to hire for optimum academic strength. When students are permitted to randomly change schedules, teachers and classrooms are not effectively utilized. As a result, all students are affected. Very seldom does a single course change affect only one course. Careful selections benefit everyone!!!

Course Selection Schedule Students will complete the course selection process in the computer labs through their Social Studies classes. February 6th – Mr. Kelley (Ms. Brockie visits classes on the 30th) February 7th – Ms. Philip (Ms. Brockie visits classes on the 31st) February 8th – Ms. Humphries (Ms. Brockie visits classes on the 1st)

Is a Pre-AP Class Right for My Child? Pre-AP courses add depth and breadth to the already rigorous grade level curriculum. Pre-AP courses are demanding of time. Reading and writing assignments, as well as projects and regular homework can be expected. They will need to make sure they are able to balance academic work and extracurricular activities. The pacing of some Pre-AP courses is very fast – particularly in Math. If your child generally picks up new concepts quickly, Pre-AP may be a good fit. If your child generally needs more time in order to learn new material, a non-Pre-AP course may be more appropriate for them.

AVID The AVID Elective targets students in the academic middle–B, C, and even D students– with the desire to go to college and the willingness to work hard. Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and come from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education. These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential. AVID places these students on the college track, requiring them to enroll in at least one (1) Pre-AP class. To support them in the rigorous coursework, AVID students learn organizational and study skills, develop critical thinking, learn to ask probing questions, receive academic support from AVID tutors who are hired to assist and encourage, and participate in enrichment and motivational activities to make their college dreams reality. Applications are due February 19th!!!
