Tip: Adding a light page color makes graphics “pop.”

Tip: Learn how to create and apply “Styles” in Word See the Styles menu at the Word Home tab. Click on “Change Styles” and then “Style Set” to see a menu of many available styles. You can create your own style set. Search under “Help” for how to create your own.

3. Color Branding What’s Branding? For all your courses, use the same fonts, heading colors, and background color. (All lectures, course guidelines, web pages, PowerPoint slides and any other multi-page documents.)  Why Unexpected colors, fonts, and layouts distract the viewer. A consistent brand keeps students focused on content. Students feel at home taking another course from you. How Word: Create a template for all documents. Canvas: Create a template for all units. Tip: In Canvas, create a "Module 9“ to house templates. Keep it “unpublished.” Then copy, paste, and modify for insertion into units 1-8.

4. Color Coding In Canvas, use the table function for Colored Unit Tiles Large: in the Syllabus Mini: in each unit Colored Accent Bars Colored Canvas “Pages”

For easy access to HTML codes, print this slide. (The RGB codes are relevant to Microsoft Word.)

How to Create your “Brand Table” Step 1. Create a Canvas table of 9 rows, 4 columns. Adjust the columns as shown in the sample (previous slide). Enter the four header texts (top row). Color this header row gray. In the first column, enter “Units” followed by 1,2, 3, etc.) Next slide shows steps 2 and 3.

Creating your personal “Brand Table” (Continued) Step 2. Select your eight “brand” colors: Go to https://www.w3schools.com. Click on the “Color Picker” hexagon. Then >Colors >Color_Picker.asp Click on a color in the hexagonal grid Copy-Paste the HTML code into your table Copy-Paste the RGB code into your table Step 3. Under Brand Color , click on the cell you want to color. Goto Table > Cell > Cell Properties > Advanced In the Background Color field, enter the Hex code (Don’t forget the “#”. Example: #386eff Repeat for the remaining 7 cells in that column

Tip: To select colors that go together: Go to “Page Layout” tab in Microsoft Word and click on “themed” colors. Select a few colors from one of the themes.

Tip To color an entire “page” in Canvas, insert a one-cell table. Under table properties set the width at 100% This ensures that the color will extend to the full width of any screen. As you enter text, the height of the cell will increase.
