How Knowing About the Temperaments Can Change Your Life By Kristie Burns, Mh, ND, Ph.D. Of www.Earthschooling.com Online Conference for Waldorf-inspired Homeschoolers

If I Could Choose One Thing… If I could choose one thing that would help make everyone’s teaching and educational experience better – it would be – Knowledge of the Four Temperaments

The 3 Most Common Questions In 18 years of consulting they are… What are the temperaments? How do I integrate them into my teaching? Why are they so important anyway?

Elements for a Successful Educational Experience You need to have knowledge of the temperaments to accomplish each of these tasks… A good plan A good rhythm solid curriculum Inner work Good relationships Good health

Awareness Can Transform Your Experience

Planning Can Be Guided by the Temperaments Melancholic needs structure Choleric needs leadership Phlegmatic needs time Sanguine needs space

Temperament & Natural Rhythm

Temperament and the Curriculum The Melancholic will be more demanding of the final product The Choleric will want increased production The Phlegmatic will require more patience The Sanguine will need more focus

Self Awareness and Inner Work The Teacher/Parent The Melancholic will focus on schedule and how things “should” be. The Choleric will focus on breathing out activities The Phlegmatic will focus on the process and natural rhythm The Sanguine will flow with the seasons, weather and day.

Relationship with the Student The Melancholic with focus on doing it right and may become frustrated The Choleric will try to steer the lessons The Phlegmatic will keep their own pace and method of learning The Sanguine will become distracted or overly focused

Health and the Temperaments The Melancholic needs more exercise and movement The Choleric needs more vegetables and fruits The Phlegmatic needs more sleep The Sanguine needs more sunlight
