Presentation transcript:

Terrestrial A land based ecosystem. Ex – rainforest, grassland, desert, etc.

Biome A large community of plants and animals that occupy a region.

Climate The weather in some location averaged over a long period of time

Location A particular place or position

Tropical Rainforest A type of forest found in areas with heavy rainfall

Grassland An ecosystem that has fertile soil covered with tall grasses.

Adaptation Any characteristic that helps a plant or animal survive.

Desert An ecosystem with very little precipitation (rainfall) and extreme temperatures.

Savanna Home to many organisms that include elephants, cheetahs, lions, and zebra. Located in Africa.

Prairie Home to organisms such as elk, prairie dogs, bison, and grasshoppers.

Permafrost A thick subsurface of soil that remains frozen throughout the year.

Tundra A vast treeless plain near the arctic circle where the subsoil is permanently frozen.

Taiga/Cuniferous Forest A type of forest characterized by cone-bearing, needle leaved trees.

Deciduous Forest A type of forest in which the trees lose their leaves each year.
