Writing for Social Workers Writing is an essential part of social work practice To be truly effective in micro as well as macro practice, social workers need excellent verbal and written communication skills Why this course? Self-as-writer Back to school? WSW will help you prepare for the rigors of graduate level academic writing, especially if you have been out of school for awhile What are MSW writing expectations? WSW will introduce you to how to approach various types of writing assignments you will confront as an MSW student Can this course help me professionally? Developing proficiency in writing will help you meet demands across the various contexts you will encounter professionally The course will help you… Explore your experience as a writer and communicator and learn how to approach writing in the social work discipline Identify your writing strengths and set goals for areas that you will need to improve or perfect Develop strategies to plan and execute a writing project Perfect your use of APA and learn how to effectively incorporate scholarly sources and evidence in your writing Hybrid and In-Person Classes The course meets on three Saturdays in September and October Two class days are shared with Field Orientation and one class is a full-day writer’s workshop Online work between class meetings helps students prepare and mirrors what you will be doing in your MSW classes The Intensive Weekend Program
