Work Authorization

CPT, OPT and H1B CPT – Internship OPT – Full-time H1B – If you are lucky! 24 months

CPT Eligibility Criteria Have been lawfully enrolled on a full-time basis for one academic year (i.e. two full consecutive terms) Be in lawful F-1 status Have U-M approved health insurance Have a job offer Not be enrolled in an intensive English language training program

CPT Apply as early as you get the job offer! I-center walk-in appointment!

OPT Eligibility Criteria To be eligible for OPT, the student must: Be in legal F-1 immigration status Be a full-time student for at least one academic year Have U-M approved health insurance

If you are applying for positions posting on Handshake, please read carefully. It is very likely that you will find the answer for the H-1B sponsorship question, but they are not correct sometimes. Please visit the company site and reach out to SAM Board/recruiter for sponsorship question.

Focus on Skills: Excel, Access, Powerpoint, Programming, Leadership Skills and how to use them to accomplish your projects Fun experiences: soccer coach, captain of basketball team, taking care of pandas, etc. (not necessarily fun to you, but must be fun to American recruiters)
