After WWII… U.S. and U.S.S.R. controlled Korea Country divided along the 38th parallel Who controlled North Korea? Who controlled South Korea? U.S. and U.S.S.R. left Korea and North Korea launches invasion of the South.

After WWII… In 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea President Truman takes action… Why? UN gets involved Truman appointed General Douglas MacArthur to command the UN forces

The War Pushing North Korea north of the 38th parallel MacArthur suggests to Truman to invade North Korea China gets involved This causes a 2 year stalemate

MacArthur and Truman Because of the stalemate, MacArthur wanted to invade China as well MacArthur ends up getting fired

The End of War The fighting stopped with a cease-fire agreement on July 27, 1953 How did Korea end up after the war was over? The exact same way it started! The cease-fire is still in effect today and there are still US troops in the 38th parallel
