What is an Early College High School? Tyler ISD is Early College High School in a partnership with Tyler Junior College. ECHS blends high school and college work to allow students to graduate with a high school diploma and an Associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours.
Tyler ISD ECHS Partnership Students have an opportunity to earn up to 60 hours and an Associates degree free of charge to students * 9th and 10th grades at A.T. Stewart campus * 11th and 12th grades on the T.J.C. campus
Early College High School Compared to Dual Credit ECHS Dual Credit Independent school model Program offered in districts Blended high school and college curriculum beginning in the 9th grade College courses offered in 11th and 12th grade 60 college credits and/or Associates degree for all students and a planned program of study 24 college credits maximum Academic, social, and emotional support Limited or little focus on academic services Must be at no cost to students (tuition, fees, textbooks, entrance exams) Students are charged tuition and may or may not be charged for textbooks Targets various backgrounds to apply Serves college-bound students
Tyler ISD Early College High School Admission Criteria Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Priority may be given to specific areas. Completed Applications must be submitted – Applications should will be available on February 5th Deadline to submit application is February 18th Students must write an essay, the essay may be written in English or Spanish Interviews – Conducted between February 20 – 23 Students will be notified of acceptance the week of March 4th
