Inclusivity! Workshop

Content Introductions SEN in mainstream SEN in specialist schools Ratios & national standards Equipment, adaptions & visual aids Case studies Q & A

Responsibilities Instructors need to make reasonable adjustments to the training services that they provide to meet the needs of disabled people. Training organisations, instructors and schools at which training is delivered need to look at their rules/policies to ensure that they do not indirectly discriminate. Instructors need to ensure that they do not have preconceived views/assumptions about an individual’s ability to carry out a task and achieve outcomes.

Mainstream & Specialist Schools Pre- course information? Disabilities in mainstream groups. Specialist schools Secondary schools After school groups Adults groups

Ratios & National Standards One-to-one or in a group? The national standards are for everyone They are designed to be inclusive not exclusive! What national standard levels can be achieved? Level 3?

Equipment, adaptions & visual aids What type of equipment and bikes can be used? Can we start with the 2 wheels approach first? What reasonable adaptions or adjustments can be made? What teaching materials could be used? Can images and drawings be effective?

Case Study Matthew from the Wirral Autistic Society said “The most useful part of the training was learning how to turn on a busy road and use a roundabout”

Q & A Any questions?
