Mendelian Genetics How are traits passed from parents to offspring?
Mendelian Genetics. Gregor Mendel, “The Father of Genetics” Mendel was interested in why offspring resembled their parents His work was the first to effectively.
 What is genetics?  Genetics is the study of heredity, the process in which a parent passes certain genes onto their children. What does that mean?
Genetics. DNA DNA is the set on instructions found in every living organism that controls the traits. DNA makes up an organisms Genes. Found inside Chromosomes.

How do scientists study traits? Objective: I can describe how genetic information is passed on to influence traits.
Mendelian Genetics. Gregor Mendel Father of genetics (1880’s) Discovered how traits were inherited Genetics = study of heredity Heredity = the passing.

Mendelian Genetics Part 3

Learning Objectives Describe Mendel’s conclusions

Mendel’s Conclusions Biological inheritance is determined by factors that are passed from one generation to the next - genes.

Mendel’s Conclusions 2. Each trait is controlled by different forms of a gene called alleles.

Mendel’s Conclusions 3. Some alleles are dominant and others are recessive. An organism will always exhibit the dominant trait when present.
