Operation Encompass

What is it? Operation Encompass is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership enabling support for children exposed to domestic abuse.

How will it work? When the Police attend a domestic incident where children or young people have been exposed a nominated Key Adult in the child’s school will be informed prior to the start of the next school day. This enables support to be given dependant upon the needs and wishes of the child.

Why is it important? Witnessing domestic violence is as harmful to a child as being directly on the receiving end Being exposed to domestic violence is an adverse childhood experience and the more of these experiences a child has the greater the negative impact on their mental and physical health

Who else should know about Operation Encompass? The Governing Body Parents New parents - Information in the school Prospectus The wider community – Information on the school website

What happens after the police have rung the school? The Key Adult will use the information to ensure that the child receives support, either openly or covertly, from a trusted adult Any information passed on to you by the Key Adult must remain confidential, in the same way as any other safeguarding information
