Announcements I have two study guides up on my website for you to use as you see fit. They do not have to be completed, but they will help you score well on the test. The Unit 2 Test is Wednesday.

Puzzles A man dressed all in black, wearing a black mask, stands at a crossroads in a totally black-painted town. All of the streetlights in town are broken. There is no moon. A black-painted car without headlights drives straight toward him, but turns in time and doesn't hit him. How did the driver know to swerve?

A five letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it A five letter word becomes shorter when you add two letters to it. What is the word?

A farmer owns a beautiful pear tree A farmer owns a beautiful pear tree. He supplies the fruit to a nearby grocery shop. The shop owner has called the farmer to see how much fruit is available for him to purchase. The farmer knows that the main trunk has 24 branches. Each branch has exactly 12 boughs and each bough has exactly 6 twigs. Since each twig bears one piece of fruit, how many plums will the farmer be able to deliver?

The Two European Empires So, long story short, Rome broke up into two “Empires,” the Western and Eastern (Byzantine). Both were Christian, but they differed on a few core beliefs. The Western Christian Empire was based in Rome, the Eastern was based in Constantinople.

The Byzantine Empire is in trouble. The Byzantine Empire was invaded by the Turks, who were Muslims. The Turks had been spreading throughout the Middle East and into present day Turkey. Look at the map on page 257.

The Two Empires Unite Nothing brings people together like a common enemy Rumors began to spread that the Turks were killing Christians who were making pilgrimages to the Holy Land A series of “Crusades” were fought between Christians and Muslims

Impact of the Crusades They went on for 200 years and mostly were unsuccessful in achieving the Christian goal of winning back the Holy Land. People went to fight in the Crusades because the Pope told them if they died in the Crusades they would automatically go to heaven. Monarchs gain a lot of power because they are able to tax the people to finance the wars.

Why would you go fight in the Crusades? 1. Religious Fervor (you’re a super religious dude) 2. Life is absolutely boring in Europe 3. Life is absolutely violent and short in Europe 4. Young men like going on adventure, especially armed with weapons and orders to kill.

What’s going to happen. We are going down the hall QUIETLY, there are classes happening. Stay to the right. When we get to the work space, everyone sit on the wall closest to the courtyard (the wall opposite of the bathrooms, near the center).

Presenting is not easy. Be respectful to the group doing the skit. NO PHONES! No laughing or making fun. Stay quiet so we can all hear the skit.

Last things! 1st. Pass up your Feudalism Play Packet (with all the boxes you were supposed to fill in. 2nd pass up scripts 3rd complete crossword.
