You will need to be able to identify the location of the following European countries: Portugal Spain France Belgium Germany Poland Ukraine Italy United Kingdom Russia

The following memory assists should help you with the task of remembering the location of these countries.

You will need to memorize the silly sentence below You will need to memorize the silly sentence below. Don’t worry, I will explain each part of the sentence so that you will better remember it. I went into the port of San Francisco Bay to golf. P-U! It smelled! Notice that certain words are underlined. These words start with the same letter as the first seven countries on slide 1.

So, what is a port? Have you ever been on a cruise? Cruise ships dock at a port. The stops you make on the trip are called “ports of call.” A port is a place on the coast where ships can dock.

This is a port where ships load and unload imports and exports This is a port where ships load and unload imports and exports. Once the containers reach land, they are shipped within the country by truck or train.

Containers loaded on semi trucks and trains for transport by land

Now, let’s put the first letters on our map to mark the location of the countries… Notice that all these countries touch. Be careful where you put the letter B. There are two Ps. One for Portugal, and one for Poland. B G P U F P S

Our first country is Portugal. Notice it has the word “port” in it. We take our ship into the port ….

P-U! It smells! Lots of fish and other seafood.

But another big reason for the smell… Pier 39

This is the reason for the… P-U! It smells! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1c4-rzRGCA The boisterous sealions started arriving in droves in January 1990, shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. At first they numbered from 10-50, but due to a plentiful herring supply, available dock space and the marina’s protected environment, the population grew to more than 300 within a few months. Each winter, the population can increase up to 900 sea lions, most of which are male.
