Career Progression Pathways Visitor Economy Overview…  For those looking to enter work in this sector, it is important that wider employability skills can be displayed, for example, working as part of a team, timekeeping and punctuality, problem solving. What is the Visitor Economy? The Liverpool City Region (LCR) sector definition includes hotel accommodation and food and beverage services, selected retail services, cultural and sports facilities and services. Did you know?   Liverpool is the fifth most popular UK city for both overseas and domestic visitors Developing key assets including the cruise liner terminal, Mersey Waters, the World Golf Resort, five-star hotels and further coastal and resort opportunities are expected to drive growth and further investment. In addition, the natural coastline provides numerous leisure facilities and cultural and sporting events to ensure this is a thriving sector in which to work. There are over 6300 businesses operating in the Visitor Economy in the LCR 72% of businesses responding to the recent LCR survey had recruited staff in the last 12 months Useful skills to have include languages and customer care Over 25% of the employees in this sector in the LCR are aged 19-24 Will there be opportunities? This sector offers great opportunities for career progression in a range of industries The rising international profile of Liverpool City Region as a cultural, business and leisure destination has led to growing numbers of jobs and has boosted investment. The Visitor Economy in the City Region employs 51,700 people with around 15,000 of these jobs created between 2010 and 2016. Forecasts indicate that this pattern will continue with annual jobs growth of 0.4 per cent, 0.7 per cent and 0.9 per cent in the retail, accommodation & food, and the arts, entertainment & recreation sectors respectively over the period 2015 – 2025. Stakeholders in the Liverpool City Region have been busy developing the Visitor Economy Passport scheme - This is aimed at all level 2 and 3 students taking Visitor Economy related courses. It is a collaboration between the 7 City Region Further Education Colleges, the LEP and People 1st. The Passport is aimed at encouraging students to develop skills in customer service, destination awareness and foreign languages as well as improving punctuality and attendance  Customer Service Assistant A customer service assistant is the interface between the industry and the consumer, acting as a company's first point of contact and advising the customer on a product or service. Front of house assistant, sales clerk, ticket office clerk, car park attendant, information kiosk assistant Hospitality Team Leader The team leader is responsible for maintaining high standards among the staff and ensuring a memorably good experience for customers and visitors alike. Other jobs: Front of house supervisor, sales team leader, hospitality supervisor, museum tour guide, hotel shift supervisor Tour Events Organiser An Event Organiser is the person who schedules an event, and usually the person that runs it and reports it. Organisers make sure their events run smoothly, and if there are any problems, they resolve them. Hotel hospitality supervisor, entertainments manager, museum experience manager Hospitality Manager Hospitality managers oversee the general operations. They coordinate and supervise departmental tasks, such as housekeeping, front office, food and beverage, room service, maintenance, among others, related to the routine operations of the property.
