State of CTE in Southwest Minnesota
2017 Industry Employment (6W & 8) manufacturing and health care & social assistance are the dominate industries, accounting for more than a third of all jobs in the region. In the past year (2016-2017) manufacturing added more jobs than any other industry.

What is LYFT Career Pathways? Launch Your Future Today (LYFT) is a rural career and technical education (CTE) pathway initiative with the purpose of rebuilding CTE in southwest and west central Minnesota. Brief history of shared CTE and LYFT “LYFT Career Pathway funding support was made available through a $3 million 2017 Minnesota Legislative grant”.

YOUTH CAREER NAVIGATOR The Career Pathway Navigator is an intermediary to schools and employers. Provides support to both students and employers. The students are supported through a continuum of career services including: career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation and training. Through these service students gain practical employability skills (soft skills: problem solving, communication, professionalism, teamwork, etc.) via job shadows, workplace tours, and guest speakers.

Career exploration activities do not take place in workplaces and are not work-based learning, but provide a foundation for work-based learning and prepare participants to make the most of opportunities. Youth Skills Training Program The Youth Skills Training Program at the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (YST@DLI) supports the development and implementation of experiential learning opportunities for students 16 and older. These locally developed programs are implemented in cooperation with employers and schools. Youth Skills Training programs include paid part-time employment and related classroom instruction.
