January Mrs. Miller’s Class Room 129 360-279-5944 rmiller@ohsd.net Ms. Tammy & Ms. Kelly We hope you had a wonderful break and are ready to be back into the routine of school! This month, we will be learning about syllables and compound words. We will continue to work on drawing a picture to tell a story, and writing our first name in capital letters. We will be counting to 20 and will be learning about things that happen in the season of winter. This month, our social skills curriculum will focus on same or different feelings, accidents, and caring and helping. Letter & Word of the Week: Jan. 7-10: Q & YOU Jan. 22-24: S & PUSH Jan. 14-17: G & NO Jan. 28-31: J & LOOK ©Thrifty in Third Grade 2016 Language Development To help encourage your child’s language development you can do the following things: Take time each day to listen to and talk with your child. Some good times for conversation are while traveling in the car, at mealtimes, while grocery shopping, and at bedtime. Encourage your child to listen and use language to express ideas. Involve your child in activities and games that require listening and following directions. Read and tell stories that have interesting characters and easy-to-follow plots. Talk with your child about the stories after you read or tell them. Read and sing nursery rhymes and rhyming stories with your child. Play a game where you come up with words that begin with the same sound – moon, man, monkey... Upcoming Events January 21 – No School Martin Luther King Jr. Day January 31 – Slipper Day (Please send your child in regular shoes, as we will go outside. They can change into their slippers once they enter the classroom.)
