Second Grade September 4 - 7 Preston Pride Reminders Goals for this week: Math We will add doubles and near doubles while using the UPS check to solve word problems. I will use the UPS check system to problem solve. Reading We will stop and jot as we read to mark places in our books that we want to talk about with others. We will make text-to-self connections to help us understand the characters and the story better. We will use our strategies to solve tricky words. I will use my Daily Five time to practice stopping and jotting, making text-to-self connections and solving tricky words. Writing We will us mentor texts to craft powerful endings for our stories.  We will reread and edit our writing for end punctuation I will use common and proper nouns correctly in my writing.  I will use commas correctly when making lists. Science We will learn how outside forces can change matter. I will change matter by cutting, folding, melting and sanding. Guiding questions: What effect does cutting or folding have on the physical properties of materials? How do materials change when they are heated? Social Studies We will identify how citizens participate in their own government. I will learn the roles of mayor, governor, and president. Word Work We will decode words with the final (k)  rule. I will spell words with the final (k) rule.
