This Is “My Why”

How Can We Help Our Children Transition? Chana Sanders—School Counselor Remember that our children model our responses. Help them see this as an opportunity to grow. Visit the campus with them. (Open House December 12 from 6:00-7:30 PM.) Help answer their questions and encourage them to ask questions as well. Be honest. Empathize with them. Clear up any misconceptions they might have.

“My Why” for Mrs. Futrelle My Kids My Own Kids

How Are We Helping Our Kids Transition How Are We Helping Our Kids Transition? Kendyl Futrelle—Assistant Principal Staff members have been talking and answering questions. Staff have been preparing for new procedures. Teachers will spend two full days in December getting classrooms ready. Students will come on a Field Trip to visit December 12-14. There are no activities the week before holidays so that kids can have opportunities for closure.

Big Questions—What Is Our Timeline? This Week—Furniture Arrives Week of November 12—Technology Arrives Week of November 19—Library Books Arrive Week of November 26—Teachers Pack First Load Week of December 3—Teachers Set Up Rooms Week of December 10—Students and Parents Visit Week of December 17—Final Adjustments

What about Safety? Our Main Entrance is off of Caswell Street. All visitors will come through the main reception area. All exterior and interior doors are key card access only. Keycard access doors separate CPES and SMS. CPES is fortunate to have easy access to Sullivan’s resource officer when needed. Appropriate fencing will be installed around our perimeter.

Arrival and Dismissal? Arrival—K and 1st will drop off at the Cherry Road Entrance and 2nd-5th will drop off at the Caswell Entrance. Bus riders will be dropped off in the Sullivan Bus Loop and will be taken to CPES. Dismissal—Same process in reverse. What about elementary kids of different ages? Big kids can get out with little kids and walk to their spots or little kids can get out with big kids and walk to their spots. No problem. Always use the loops for Arrival and Dismissal. Safety Patrol will help car riders. Transportation Survey—Please fill this out and return to your child’s homeroom teacher. We must have one per child.

How Will the Cafeteria Run? Sonya McCrorey is our cafeteria manager and she has been in our school district nearly twenty years. All CP students will eat in the CP cafeteria. We will start with two serving lines. Students will eat with their classes just like they have done in their home schools. Parents are welcome to visit during lunch as always. In the future, we will have opportunities for parents to eat with their children at picnic tables right outside the cafeteria.

What about the Challenger After School Program? We will have a K-2nd and 3rd-5th Challenger Director. Pickup will be from our main entrance off of Caswell. We will have similar procedures as in our home schools. You can enroll now (for the Spring) if you are not in the program. We will host Summer Challenger here as well.

How Can Parents Become Involved? Volunteer—We want to match your interests and availability with school and student needs. Parent Teacher Organization—Has three functions: a. Serves to raise funds for school projects b. Helps encourage staff (Teacher Appreciation) c. Coordinates volunteers. Our first PTO Meeting is Monday, November 26 from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Sullivan PD Room which is to the right of the main entrance of CPES. (Look for the entrance below the white arch under the awnings.)

How Can Parents become Involved? School Improvement Council--Serves to support initiatives in the School Improvement Plan. Is a sounding board for the administration as well. SIC Election—If you would like to place your name on the ballot, email Mr. Maness (pmaness@rhmail.org) and send him your name, the school your child(ren) currently attend and their grade level(s).
