Campus Journalism (CJ) Act of 1991 Republic Act No. 7079 This is an act providing for the development and promotion of Campus Journalism (CA) and other related purpose.

Declaration of Policy To uphold and protect the freedom of the press even at the campus level To promote the development and growth of CA as a means of Strengthening ethical values Encouraging critical and creative thinking, and Developing moral character and personal discipline of the Filipino youth.

Declaration of Policy Promoting responsible and free journalism. The State (through the Department of Education) shall undertake various programs and projects aimed at Improving journalistic skills of students, and Promoting responsible and free journalism.

Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) The SPJ is a four-year course in Journalism at the secondary level. It is designed to develop the learner’s skills required in mass communication (journalism and broadcast media). Its main focus is primarily to engage the learners in the different activities to hone their journalistic and broadcasting skills.

Objectives of SPJ SPJ aims to: Identify areas of development in various aspects of journalism/broadcast media; Nurture talents in journalism/broadcast media through activities requiring critical & creative thinking; Strengthen ethical values on responsible journalism/broadcast media and freedom of the press; and Enhance their skills and competencies in journalism/broadcast media.

National Schools Press Conference SY 2008- 2009 Schedule: February 15-21, 2009 Venue: Division of Naga City, Region V Theme: “Climate Change: A Call for Responsible Campus Journalism”

Objectives promote awareness and understanding of climate change through varied journalistic approaches; demonstrate commitment to support programs and advocate for community initiatives to ward off the negative effects of climate change through responsible journalism; and enhance journalistic competencies through friendly individual and group competitions.

Regional Schools Press Conferences (RSPC) The Regional Schools Press Conferences (RSPC) shall be conducted from October to December 15, 2008. The regions are advised to craft a theme based on the national theme: “Climate Change: A Call for Responsible Campus Journalism”

Submission of School Paper Regional Entries Deadline for submission of regional entries on School Papers for Group Contest shall be on January 9, 2009, 5:00 P.M. Strictly no extension on the late submission.

Registration Fee A registration fee of Three Thousand Pesos (PhP3,000.00) shall be charged each participant to the NSPC payable in check or in cash to the host division – Naga City. The first meal (dinner) shall be served on February 15 and the last meal (morning snacks) on February 21, 2009.

Participants the top 3 regional winners in each of the 7 categories, Elementary and Secondary, English and Filipino in Individual Writing Contest. 84 Campus Journalists per Region 84 School Paper Advisers per Region 14 participants (7 elementary and 7 secondary) and four coaches (2 elementary and 2 secondary) of the radio broadcast and scriptwriting contests from the regional winners. 14 Campus Journalists per Region 4 School Paper Advisers per Region
