1| A strong long-term vision Flanders’ first strategy on sustainable development dates back to 2006 The strategy was updated and renewed every five years In 2016 the strategy was incorporated in an overall vision for Flanders Vision 2050

Vision 2050 A long-term strategy for Flanders Presented in March 2016 by the Government of Flanders This forward-looking policy document sets out a vision for an inclusive, open, resilient and internationally connected region that creates prosperity and well-being for its citizens in a smart, innovative and sustainable manner

Development of an adapted monitoring and reporting system 4| Monitoring (to be) Development of an adapted monitoring and reporting system Flanders contributes to the UN monitoring and reporting system In 2017 Flanders has contributed to a Voluntary National Review, an in-depth report drawn up about progress and challenges A Flemish set of indicators to monitor the implementation of Focus 2030 is under development, using the UN and EUROSTAT frameworks as inspiration source

5| Integration in public institutions Leading by example: the SDGs will be integrated in the internal operation and management of Flemish public institutions A number of good practices and actions are already in place Integration in all-embracing SDG framework is needed The first step is raising awareness and give training Generic workshops for all civil servants Specific workshops for management and executive boards Tailored roadmaps and SDG instruments will be developed and existing management and reporting instruments will be adapted

6| Enhancement of stakeholder management The scope and complexity of the SDGs ask for active participation of the stakeholders Multi-actor governance with shared responsibilities Involvement, transparency, co-creation and interaction between the public and private partners Stakeholder management will be enhanced Sharing of good practices and tuning of approaches Working together towards recognisable approaches and communication Needs for support will be identified and horizontal partnerships will be stimulated

7| Cooperation with cities & municipalities Cities and municipalities will play an important role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Collaboration between Flanders and the cities and municipalities is important The Association of Flemish cities and municipalities is a privileged partner Preparation of an SDG-pact for the implementation of the 2030-subjectives
