Publications EMAC Publications Ethics Committee IJRM JMB

Publications The ethics committee consisting of Ben Lowe, Christoph Fuchs, Marc Vanhuele, Jacob Goldenberg, Eitan Muller, Klaus Wertenbroch and Marnik Dekimpre has discussed a first draft of the ethics guidelines. This version has been sent to the steering group for further discussions.

Publications / IJRM IJRM is in good shape. IJRM is in good health. 416 manuscripts were submitted in 2013 with 43 articles finally appearing. Of special interest is the replication corner which had 25 submissions. So far 15 replications have been published. This is good for our discipline because only by replications we can be sure that certain results are stable and not artefacts. In addition, IJRM is putting effort into publishing data and codes. Authors of accepted articles positively reacted to the editors’ request to provide/share their data and simulation code. Beginning with issue #1 (2014) some of the articles will have links to their data/code which are stored in Run My Code, a separate repository, and will be managed by Elsevier (http://www.runmycode.org). Authors retain copyright to their data/code and there is a timestamp on the code/data deposit.

Publications / JMB The second journal has just been launched. The Journal of Marketing Behavior (JMB) under the editorship of Klaus Wertenbroch is ready for submissions. So far, JMB has received 14 unsolicited manuscripts of which six have been rejected. The remaining eight are still under review and of which a few look promising. In addition, JMB will have two solicited target articles that will be featured in the first volume. These targets articles will have two sets of comments followed by the authors’ response. They include Barry Schwartz at Swarthmore College on the paradox of choice (with comments from Keith Stanovic @ Toronto and Shane Frederick @ Yale) and Itamar Simonson at Stanford on the state of BDT (with comments from Norbert Schwartz @ USC and John Lynch @ Colorado). JMB will publish the first issue in the fourth quarter of 2014 as part of volume 1 (2015). In addition, JMB will publish a special issue based on the “La Londe” conference in 2015 (http://www.cerog.org/lalondeCB/CB/), but not before 2016.

External Relations 4 Major Initiatives The first ever joint event of EMAC and AMA, a conference on Innovation in Marketing, is on tap for May 27-28, 2014. Confirmed speakers include the CEO of Unilever and the CEO of Heineken. Academic attendance is by invitation only and will include many of the world’s leading marketing scholars. The conference will be held at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and will be co-chaired by Gui Liberali, Eitan Muller, Stefan Stremersch and Roland Rust. Negotiations are currently underway for a site for the 2016 conference, to be held in the U.S. We anticipate that the conference will alternate between Europe and the U.S., with the conference returning to Europe in 2018. Special issue of IJRM. In conjunction with the Innovation in Marketing conference, there will be a special issue of IJRM, co-edited by Gui Liberali, Eitan Muller, Stefan Stremersch and Roland Rust. They are already processing submitted manuscripts. 25 25

External Relations 4 Major Initiatives The EMAC/McKinsey Dissertation competition is again underway, with Sönke Albers and Roland Rust participating with members from McKinsey on the selection committee. The award will be decided at the EMAC conference in Valencia. A total of 36 dissertation abstracts were received and are currently under review. The abstracts appear to be of generally high quality. EMAC co-sponsoring a Global Marketing Conference in Singapore. Thanks to the efforts of Udo Wagner, EMAC will co-sponsor a Global Marketing Conference in Singapore, spearheaded by GAMMA, an Asian-centered marketing association. The conference dates will be July 15-18. AMA and a number of Asian marketing associations will be additional co-sponsors. The selection of the conference program is currently underway. 26 26
