We give preference to local people for employment We give preference to local suppliers where possible We have a commitment to using “Fair Trade” produce

People Key staff Board of Directors Steven Campbell – Coffee Shop Manager Eduard Szasz – Senior Barista One Salaried Barista and four Flexible Baristas Board of Directors Adam Bazire – Chairman Stephen Harris – Finance Director Debbie Hutton –Director David Felton – Director Robert Gilbert – Director

2018 Activities: Planning This time last year I reported to the AGM that a planning request had been submitted for the field behind the Coffee Shop. We ran a campaign to raise public awareness Thanks to fantastic support from many individuals and the Village Hall Trust, the LDNPA received a record number of objections for a residential development and the application was rejected. However, it has not gone away for good. The field remains a target for development and the threat may recur. Today Tomorrow?

2018 Activities: Kitchen In February, our kitchen was condemned by Food Health and Hygiene inspectors. The original work surfaces and units were for domestic use and had deteriorated badly As it happened over a period of time, we had not noticed how bad it had got. Oops! Fortunately we were not shut down, just told to replace it The Village Hall Trust supported us in a complete refurbishment to commercial kitchen standards All stainless steel units Commercial fridges and appliances New air-conditioning. The project was complete in 12 weeks, and to budget Thank you!

2018 Activities: Staff Our former manager resigned in August We were very pleased to recruit Steve Campbell as his replacement, starting 5th November. Steve has brought many new ideas to the Coffee Shop ALL cakes are now home-baked Breakfast now available, including bacon rolls! He is also committed to the community of Threlkeld, having children at Threlkeld School and being an active FOTS

(Note: financial year end is 31 March) Financial results FY2018 (Note: financial year end is 31 March)

Storm Desmond Revenue declined from £140,801 in the year ended 31 March 2016 to £126,853 in FY2017 Down 11% year on year, and down 22% on budget as revenue growth had been expected Given typical 26% cost of materials, Storm Desmond is directly responsible for £10,324 off the bottom line in 2017. Desmond

Results Note In addition, Coffee Shop pays £10,157 to Village Hall for use of the facility covering rent, rates, heating, lighting, waste and general maintenance. Also, the Coffee Shop received a grant of £15,000 from the Cumbria Community Foundation which has been passed through to the Village Hall Trust. 2019 financial year to date is a little ahead of 2018, but still well behind 2016 New management is delivering significant improvements Storm Desmond continues to have a big effect on us.

Conclusion Finances continue to be tight, compared to the “pre Storm Desmond” days. Nevertheless, the Coffee Shop will provide a significant contribution to the Village Hall Trust over the coming years from on-going profit, rent and historical reserves Thank you, again, to our magnificent staff, to our volunteer directors … … and all our wonderful customers
