The U.S. in WWII As U.S. forces battled in the Pacific, the war in Europe was raging on. But on June 6, 1944, the Allies sent 175,000 troops into heavy fire on the beaches of Normandy, France. This invasion is known as D-Day. The D-Day invasion

1945, WWII ends Finally in May, 1945, Germany surrenders to the Allies, but Japan still did not. Then, on August 6, 1945 a B-29 bomber named the Enola Gay, dropped a single atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Another bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, on August 9, 1945. Japan finally surrendered, ending the most devastating war in history.
