YouTube Channels What are they, and how do they work? presented by Joey Gall Technology Curriculum Specialist

How did this idea come about? * During a recent Dr. Pook training, it dawned on me that there are many new concepts being introduced, and not enough time to share “best practices” and “real-life” examples with everyone. * Having experimented with YouTube and QR codes, I thought the concept might work. So, I asked, “Why not a design a place to do just that?” * Many teachers take pictures and video great things taking place in their classrooms on a regular basis. Why not share these with others?

YouTube Accounts & Channels Must create a channel to upload videos. Videos default to “Public” <which we don’t want>, but can be marked “Private” <requires login to view> or “Unlisted” <which is preferred---users must have the direct link to view, and these are not searchable> Easy to upload and share videos with others across the district.

And did we learn A LOT in that one week... With buy-in from a 3rd grade teacher and Literacy Facilitator at Darr, we asked permission from their principal, and set a date to begin. And did we learn A LOT in that one week...

Example of an RPS YouTube Channel Elementary Literacy Facilitators have their own login and YouTube Channel. Here, they can upload videos to share with each other and with others throughout the district as needed. Literacy YouTube Channel
