In week 8 you will learn how to release God encounters in your disciplemaking. Today you may be tempted to think that this message is for someone else. But all of us are called release God encounters.

God Encounters – A Way of Life: “As you go, preach this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven is near.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:7–8) As you go" - whether you are doing something you love or something you hate you are to make disciples - release God encounters. We have relegated doing this to church or youth services but Jesus calls us to do it whenever we go about our lives. Imagine if everyone in this room was thirsty and I give you half a glass of water. What would you do with it? Will you take a sip and pass it on or pray for it to multiply? If I stood by a sea of fresh water and there are a hundred people - we could drink until we are tired of water. It is like this with God encounters - they will never run out. Are we willing to release them to people? Are you willing to release God encounters? God is always wanting to show up!

So what God encounters can we release?

The first of the God encounters we will look at is Miracles.

Miracles Defined: What are miracles Miracles Defined: What are miracles? (1) an extraordinary event manifesting divine intervention in human affairs.

(2) an extremely outstanding or unusual event, thing, or accomplishment.

In other words: “Absolutely ridiculous stuff happening” In other words: “Absolutely ridiculous stuff happening”. Remember when Jesus fed the 5000 with just five loaves and two small fish. God loves to do amazing things for us. Divine interventions.

The second God Encounter we will look at and Prophecy The second God Encounter we will look at and Prophecy. Can we have God speak to us like we hear the voice of a friend or a parent? We know the voice of our parents and could recognise it anywhere. What if we could get to know God's voice just like that?

Prophecy Definition: What is Prophesy Prophecy Definition: What is Prophesy? (1) a divinely inspired message or prediction, spoken or written, that reveals God’s will, nature or desire.

(2) God’s thoughts revealed in human words

Prophecy is a powerful weapon that destroys wrong thinking in people’s minds and reveals God’s heart to people.

“But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.” (1 Corinthians 14:24-25). Prophecy will let people know that God is real because they are hearing things that only God could know.

“You can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” (1 Corinthians 14:31) All of us can prophesy!

The third God Encounter we will explore is Healing The third God Encounter we will explore is Healing. We can all pray for someone to be healed. There is no special secret to doing it. We have to depend on God who does the healing. We can release a healing encounter with God.

Healing Definition: What is healing Healing Definition: What is healing? When a pain, discomfort or disability retains full function, full strength and complete recovery. There is no formula and there is more than one way to see God heal someone.

Here is a simple guideline for praying for the sick: (1) Ask the person what to pray for. (2) Listen to the Holy Spirit. (3) Pray for God’s Kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10). (4) Take Authority in Jesus name. (5) Ask the person to do what they could not do before . (6) Thank God. (7) Pray Again if needs be. The kingdom is much greater than the kingdom of this earth. We are asking God to override this kingdom with his kingdom. When we pray for someone we are often too scared to ask them if they are healed. Ask them to do something they could not do before. If they are still not healed then pray one more time with them and if still nothing has happened then thank God in advance for him to heal.

Activation: Is there anyone here who is in need of healing this morning? We are going to have teenagers pray for you and we will trust God for healing.

How do we release God encounters?

1. Be Led by the Spirit

When Jesus invited us into a relationship with Him, He expected it to be a 24/7 thing. He promised to never leave us, and fulfills this promise through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us. A characteristic of those who have surrendered their lives to Him is that they are led by the Spirit of God.

Where. To His lost children Where? To His lost children. Imagine if your dad said that one of his children has gone missing and he will give you all his resources to go and find them. What would you do? You would go and find them, right? Imagine if you were one of those lost children. Would you want someone to come and find you? Of course you would!!! We have been tasked as disciplemakers to go and find the lost children for Father.

“But because of his great love for us . . .” (Ephesians 2:4)

“God does not want anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

How. This Leading Can Be Subtle. God is Sending Clues: Feel it, See it How? This Leading Can Be Subtle. God is Sending Clues: Feel it, See it. Read it, Think it. Hear it, Dream it. Experience it.

2. Be Expectant

Expectation is being sure of the thing that you hope for.

We expect gifts on our birthdays or during Christmas because we are sure that our loved ones will buy us something.

So we should also expect God encounters because we are sure that God loves His children.

3. Be Courageous

“Be strong and courageous “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9). Courage is not about you knowing everything or you having everything. Courage is about knowing that God is with you.

“Now, Lord consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” (Acts 4:29-31)

We all feel afraid at times and it is tempting to give into the fear and to not take risks in evangelism and discipleship.

Courage is doing what is right even when we feel afraid Courage is doing what is right even when we feel afraid. Courage is resisting intimidation and fear and obeying God despite these. Courage comes to us as we are filled with and are led by the Spirit.

What if You Have No Clue? Just do it

Some questions to initiate a God Encounter: (1) If you could wish for one thing from God today what would that be? (2) Are there any sick people here? (3) What is the biggest problem you or your family is facing these days? (4) What can I pray for you?

Turning A God Encounter Into Discipleship: (1) Prayer Turning A God Encounter Into Discipleship: (1) Prayer. (2) Get details (People want to be remembered). (3) Don’t try to pack everything into one encounter. (4) Set up another time to meet. (5) Be yourself. (6) Have fun. (7) Give God the credit.

Summary: To release God encounters we must be led, expectant and courageous.

We break for the July School holidays and return on Sunday morning the 27th July for the first week of our Fire Fighters series.
