Presentation transcript:

Bell Work 9 January 2017 Take a sheet from the table. If you did not turn in your goals from Friday, do so at this time. We are going to play a kahoot to review poetry terms. After this, we have a quick whole class activity to do. Remember, the faster we do this, the more time you have to work on your portfolios.

Device to Meaning Turn to page 35 in your packet. We are going to quickly do a Device to Meaning chart together as a class

“Jar of Hearts” by Christina Perri I know I can't take one more step towards you 'Cause all that's waiting is regret Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore You lost the love I loved the most I learned to live half alive And now you want me one more time Chorus And who do you think you are? Runnin' 'round leaving scars Collecting your jar of hearts And tearing love apart You're gonna catch a cold From the ice inside your soul So don't come back for me Who do you think you are? I hear you're asking all around If I am anywhere to be found But I have grown too strong To ever fall back in your arms And I've learned to live half alive And now you want me one more time (Chorus) And it took so long just to feel alright Remember how to put back the light in my eyes I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed 'Cause you broke all your promises And now you're back You don't get to get me back Who do you think you are?

January 11, 2017 Take both sheets on the podium. Have a seat at a computer and log in. Have your One-pager and the Sound-Alike sheet from yesterday out Go to http://www.poetryfoundation.org/ and find the poem you used for your One-pager You are going to copy and paste it to a word document You will then find another poem to use for your TPCASTT After that, you will find a song to use for the Device to Meaning chart

Poetry Portfolio—page 7 & 8 Six Parts Due (tentatively) Tuesday, Jan. 17 or Wednesday, Jan. 18 Part 1: Cover Part 2: Two poems and one song (typed or written out) Part 3: Two original poems you have written Part 4: One pager for one of your selected poems Part 5: TPCASTT analysis sheet over the second poem Part 6: Connecting Device to Meaning Chart on your selected song

Agenda: Gather two poems for your portfolio and a song that you like. Use easybib.com to format your citations correctly or sample sheet I gave you. Use the poetry foundation site or any of the other sites listed on your project instructions to find published poems. Do NOT use poems found on blogs or personal web pages. Work quietly on your project.

By the end of class today Two poems printed out on separate sheets of paper. Song lyrics printed out on separate sheet of paper. Works Cited Page

January 12, 2017 Please be in your assigned seat. We are going to discuss the poetry portfolio and my expectations for today in the library. Have out your checklist half-sheet that I gave you yesterday and whatever materials you have for the portfolio.

Work Time You have the remainder of class to print and work on your project. Use your time wisely. Ask questions if you need help.

Bellwork: 13 January 2017 Take the sheets at the table. Place your checklist sheet on your desk with all that you have completed. I will call you up one at a time for your checklist. Think about something that you fear. Write a free verse poem about your fear. You may use the example provided on the next slide and in your packet (p. 32) as a model. No picture needed for this. Use the planning sheet if you desire.

What are you doing here. You are not invited What are you doing here? You are not invited! I don’t want you in my home! I don’t want you crawling in my mouth while I’m asleep! I don’t care if it’s cold outside. You belong in the dirt out back! Get the bug out! Eww! I’ve got to kill you. Come over here you nasty thing. Squish! Scream! Squish! Scream! Ugh, I need to clean the carpet

Create a Cover: POETRY

Write two original poems.

Original poems You have options. When you turn in your portfolio to me on Wednesday, it must contain two poems, at least 12 lines in length. You can write them on a sheet paper in ink or type them. In your packet, there are examples/ideas for writing your poems. I am going to discuss a few with you and let you get to work.

6-Word Memoir www.sixwordmemoirs.com This still has to be at least twelve lines long. Each line: 6 words. Use the categories in the packet or come up with your own. Examples: Friday the 13th; I’m feeling lucky! I’m a better person on paper. Bald makes me cooler than you.
