Presentation transcript:

Contour island model competition The challenge is to build an imaginative autumn-themed contour island model using layer colouring. Your model island should: Have at least five layers Be creative in shape and design, and match the autumn theme (e.g. seasonal weather, Halloween, Guy Fawkes, fireworks, etc.) Be presented on a piece of background card which could be coloured blue to look like the sea Have a title or name Have a compass arrow Have a key (shades of green, yellow, orange and brown) Have other features labelled (rivers, bays, mountains, etc.)

Instructions Design the shape of your island – have a maximum of seven layers. Cut the largest shape out, draw around it on card then colour it in green. Cut the next layer out, draw around it on card and colour it in pale green or yellow. Repeat stages 2 and 3 until you reach your last layer. Each layer should be coloured in a lighter shade of green, then yellow and orange, with the highest layer being brown. Now assemble your island Glue your island onto a piece of card painted blue to represent the sea. Make a key and stick it onto your island. Draw on a compass arrow. Give your island a name. Bring your model to your first geography lesson after the half-term holiday.
