Unit 2 Unmanned Aircraft Module 1 The UAS Component 1.8 – Classifications of UAS

Classifications of UAS Micro UAS Small UAS Large UAS

Classifications of UAS Micro UAS Under 4.4lbs Limited onboard applications due to restrictions on weight and power supply Lower costs, more portable, and safer due to low kinetic energy Applications include training and small mapping operations

Classifications of UAS Small UAS Weigh less than 55lbs Due to Gross Takeoff Weight (GTOW) they have the ability to enter medium altitudes They also have the ability to extend there range performance (24 hours and altitudes of 19,000ft) Some systems can be quite expensive due to peripheral costs such as catapult and recovery systems, and vehicles that house ground control stations.

Classifications of UAS Large UAS Comparable is weight and performance to traditional aircraft Capable of fling above 18,000ft altitudes Some are converted airframes that replace life-support systems and spaces to payload and communications systems Large UAS can provide date like satellites without the expense of space launches

Classifications of UAS Applications of UAS Target of aerial Provides targets for missile and gun training exercises while increase safety and reducing costs Reconnaissance Specialized systems that provide critical intelligence information for troops on the battlefield Combat Includes UAS with fighting capabilities For higher risk missions that endanger human life Logistics Made to deliver cargo materials, single task units for the transportation of materials

Classifications of UAS Research and Development Aircraft that are fitted with specialized equipment to preform studies for education Used to improve and develop better USA Technologies Civil and Commercial Unmanned Aircraft UAS that preform duties or services Included in this are agricultural applications and aerial photography

Classifications of UAS 107.21 In-Flight Emergency In an in-flight emergency requiring immediate action, the remote pilot in command may deviate from any rule of this part to the extent necessary to meet that emergency. Each remote pilot in command who deviates from a rule under paragraph (a) of this section must, upon request of the Administrator, send a written report of that deviation to the Administrator.
