Reading Strategy EFFECTIVE READING PRE READING 1- DISCUSSION 2- GIST 3- SCANNING DURING READING 1- GUESSING 2- TASK POST READING DISCUSSING ANSWERS
Pre Reading: Students read the discussion question and brainstorm answers. They could write questions to be answered also. Students read the titles in the reading lesson and make a concept map out of them (reading for gist) Discuss the objectives of the lesson Scanning: use give one take one strategy. The 12 questions are divided amongst the groups each group solves a part then one student from each group goes to the other groups to take the answers.
During reading Students work together to guess the meaning of the words Complete the concept map Note: students don’t need to read word by word. It is enough to understand the general idea.
After reading Teacher asks students to prepare three questions to ask the other groups Students demonstrate their concept maps and discuss them Students give their questions to the other groups to answer Students grade each others answers
